Just thought I’d share a quick, dark little canvas I just painted.
Ever since I finished the massive ‘Falling In,’ I’ve been addicted to splashing black trees against swirling colors.
The Abyss might be my favorite thus far:

This canvas felt tiny. Only 16″ x 20″. It started with watercolors in the center, which I darkened to deep reds, umbers, and blacks as I moved out.

Painting the trees took hours and hours. Not to mention several brush sizes and techniques. I needed quick slashes for the tiny limbs, & broad, terrifying strokes for the bigger parts. I listened to soundtracks the entire time, specifically ‘Fissures,’ by Robert Rich and Alio Die.
I finished ‘The Abyss’ in just three nights.
That’s pretty fast for me.
For my other works, including the epic ‘Ocean of Knives,’ go here.
Not sure exactly but I’m seeing a progression that works.
